Weather Incentive Marketing
Unbeknown to most people companies often lose large amounts of revenue because of the weather. Weather incentive marketing aims to reduce the impact of the weather on certain business industries and motivate potential customers.
For every weather event there are beneficiaries and casualties and in the case of rain and storms during summer for example, outdoor attractions suffer whilst companies offering indoor entertainment thrive. Reversing the situation indoor attractions such as cinemas suffer when the weather is good whilst outdoor entertainment such as zoos and estates prosper.
In the current economic climate companies cannot afford an unstable income and so may offer weather incentives. An outdoor tourist attraction like Hampton Court may use weather incentive marketing ideas such as visitors receiving a free annual pass if there is more than 5mm of rainfall on a particular date. This will still attract customers, as if the weather does turn nasty the day is not wasted and they get good compensation.
If your company has problems with the weather affecting sales, perhaps weather incentive marketing is an option for you to consider.
