Front Anti-Roll Bars
A front anti-roll bar is a vehicle suspension device that connects opposite wheels together through short lever arms. A front anti-roll bar is obviously at the head of the car but sway bars as they are also known are also installed at the back of the vehicle.
Front anti-roll bars increase the stiffness of the suspension’s roll, which is its resistance to roll in turns independent of its spring rate in the vertical direction. The main function of an anti-roll bar is to reduce the amount of lean when the vehicle turns. It pulls the inside tyre up (under loading it) and pushes down on the outside wheel (over loading it) so reducing the grip at the end they are attached. Front anti-roll bars can also be tuned to affect under steer and over steer.
