Cyclindrical Grinder

A cylindrical grinder is a machine tool that uses an abrasive wheel as a cutting tool.  The wheel’s surface will cut a small chip from the work piece on contact through shear deformation.

There a number of different types of grinder, each suited to specific applications depending on their shape and whether they move or the work piece moves around them. Cylindrical grinders include a centreless grinder and are usually constructed with multiple grinding wheels for the work piece to be rotated.  It is fed past the wheels to form a cylinder and create specific products like precision rods.

As with most machines in the mechanical engineering industry, cylindrical grinding machines must mould and shape to the exact required measurement.  There is little room for human error so they are generally controlled by specialised computer programs, which produce better and faster results.
