LPG

LPG is short for liquefied petroleum gas and is currently the favourite alternative fuel to petrol and diesel in the UK.  It is far more environmentally friendly than both petrol and diesel, as it is cleaner, releasing fewer carbon emissions and particles on burning.

LPG is also used for a variety of other functions but at current it is most widely known for its involvement in the automobile industry.  As LPG is still not the most widely used fuel, vehicles have to undergo a conversion before they can run on LPG although can also be dual fuel if the owner does not wish to convert the vehicle completely.

Although LPG is good for the environment most people tend to be interested in converting their vehicles because of the reduced cost.  This is part of a government incentive to ‘go green’ so people directly benefit by saving money.  LPG fuel for example costs about half the price of petrol or diesel so an individual can save approximately 40% on fuel costs per year.  Those using LPG can also benefit from reductions in car and road tax as well as being exempt from the congestion charge.
