Lighting Food Products

Lighting food products is not as simple as you might think.  In the world of retail lighting is subtly used to attract the attention of customers, create an ambiance and show products to their best advantage.  Food and perishable goods are no exception and use different types of lighting to influence potential buyers.

Different coloured lighting will alter the appearance of certain food products like vegetables or meat, making them look more fresh, healthy and nutritious and thus encouraging customers to make a purchase.  Using only ‘normal’ lighting for food products could leave them looking dull therefore not giving potential customers the right impression.

It is not purely about appearances though as the safety of staff and customers is critical all times.  Sharp objects such as shattered glass from lighting cannot contaminate food, which is an additional reason for the use of specialist bulbs.
