Colour rendering is the effect lighting can have on the colour appearance of objects by conscious or subconscious comparison with their natural colour.  For each object the CRI or Colour Rendering Index is the measure used to establish the light source that can reliably produce the optimum colour effect.

Light filters help to achieve the colour rendering so widely used in the retail industry.  Using light filters to adjust the colour of products helps to attract the attention of potential customers and show products to their best advantage.  In the food industry colour rendering enhances the produce to look more fresh and nutritious, thus encouraging customers to make a purchase. 

The correct colour rendering will make vegetables appear brighter and healthier for example compared to ‘normal’ lighting, which could leave them looking dull and unappealing. Similarly the light filters used in clothing stores will affect how vibrant the garments appear and draw attention to special features like buttons or embroidery.
