Colour Rendering
Colour rendering is the effect lighting can have on the colour appearance of objects by conscious or subconscious comparison with their natural colour. For each object the CRI or Colour Rendering Index is the measure used to establish the light source that can reliably produce the optimum colour effect.
Colour rendering is used widely in the retail industry to attract the attention of potential customers and show products to their best advantage. The food industry especially use colour rendering to make products look more fresh and nutritious, thus encouraging customers to make a purchase. The correct colour render will make vegetables appear brighter and healthier for example compared to ‘normal’ lighting, which could leave them looking dull and unappealing.
