UKCoD
UKCoD is the UK council on Deafness. The council was founded by a group of organisations with a mutual interest in improving the standard of living for deaf people. An inaugural meeting was held in September 1993 where the 33 founding organisations elected the committee. UKCoD now works alongside other deaf organisations in the UK.
The council provides information and support whilst representing the views of the government. Any voluntary organisation that works with the deaf or hard of hearing can join UKCoD. The council does not provide individual service to a deaf person, instead their views are for all deaf people to have an opportunity to participate in society.
The organisation has several objectives to achieve including:
- Promoting awareness of issues relating to deafness
- Providing support for members to share resources
- Promoting access to funding opportunities for members
- Promoting the interests of members in the development of the voluntary sector
