Stenographer
A stenographer is the person who uses a stenograph machine. Stenographers have to go through a lot of training so that they can produce words simultaneously with a speaker. Trained stenographers can produce words in excess of 230 words per minute, which enables simultaneous text production on a screen along with a speaker.
Stenographers are different to palantypists for one reason, they use stenograph machines while palantypists use palantype machines. These two machines have the same function and esentially work the same way except the keyboard layouts are different, meaning stenographers and plantypists are trained slightly differently.
A stenographer must learn all the chords possible for a large dictionary of words. Several keys are pressed to produce a chord, which represents a word then processed to produce text on a screen. It is crucial the stenographer is well learned in the chords to avoid errors and can produce over 230 words per minute so they can keep up with the speaker.
