Oven Profiling
A range of industries use ovens during the manufacturing process of their products and to ensure they are of a high quality, conduct quality assurance tests with technology such as oven profiling systems. Oven profiling is a way measuring temperatures within the oven to try and keep them even and consistent.
Oven profiling equipment produce a set of time-temperature data by measuring certain dimensions including peak, soak, slope and TAL (time above liquidus). This ensures that all products are manufactured under the same conditions and provides a report for future use if there is a problem with a batch.
Oven profiling is not a generic quality assurance procedure; it uses a variety of specially modified equipment in different industries. A special type of thermal profiler is used during soldering for example, as it must be conducted under the very controlled conditions of a reflow oven. For this procedure there are two types of oven profiling system; RSS and RTS or Ram-Soak-Spike and Ramp to Spike respectively.
