Alarm Receiving Centre

An alarm receiving centre is another term for a remote visual response centre or RVRC.  It is the hub of any remote security or surveillance operation with people watching large banks of monitors for suspicious activity.  Should any suspicious behaviour be detected, for example people being observed in a construction site at night when the area should be deserted, the operators in the alarm receiving centre raise the appropriate alarm.

From their actions the police can be informed and dispatched if necessary or any other emergency service if required.  Unfortunately due to the monotonous nature of the operator’s job in the alarm receiving centre many suspicious events can be missed, as motivation and concentration is quickly lost.  Some studies show that workers no longer pay full attention to the monitors after as little as 20 minutes.

Alarm receiving centres have seen a dramatic improvement in reliability in the last few years though with the introduction of Intelligent Video.  Intelligent Video systems can have different goals but overall they are to automatically scan footage for suspicious activity.  The systems have proven more effective in spotting problematic events and raising the alarm than employees with fewer errors.  With technology still improving, alarm receiving centres are set to continue improving their quality of service too.
