Intelligent Barcode System
Since the conception of barcoding the technology used has seen continual improvement up to the modern day. Barcoding technology now is smaller, faster and more efficient than it has ever been before, helping businesses to improve productivity by huge margins.
The most recent technological advance is the emergence of the intelligent radio barcode system. Although this system is not yet in place in the UK it is currently being tested by choice companies who wish to better the service they offer customers, like Tesco.
This intelligent barcode system works in essentially the same way as current barcoding systems but reduces the reliance on human action. Radio scanners set up around the store, including at loading bays will keep track of every individual product from arrival at the store to the end puchase by customers.
The intelligent barcode system will automatically update all database information so staff are aware of all the products in stock and when replacement supplies need to be ordered. Judging by the success of radio barcodes in current tests, they could well be the future of stock taking.
