Barcoding

Barcoding is essential for many businesses to function productively, especially those in the retail sector.  Barcoding allows for stock to be tracked easily and reordered when necessary, greatly improving life for employees who would have had to track and order products manually before the technology was developed.

A barcoding system requires both hardware and software to work effectively and provide a time saving logistical solution.  In the retail industry the principle barcoding solution needs specially developed portable or stationary barcode equipment to scan barcode labels on products.  The barcode is read by a computer that keeps track of stock levels and once it recognises a certain product has only a few units left available it automatically sends an order to the supplier for more.

Purchasing and maintaining all the barcoding equipment is expensive but worthwhile, especially for large stores.  There are few shops that still track and order stock manually, as barcoding systems save so much time and reduce the number of errors made as long as staff are well trained in using the equipment.
