Bar Code
Bar codes are essential for many businesses to function productively, especially those in the retail sector. A bar code allows for stock to be tracked easily and reordered when necessary, greatly improving life for employees who would have had to track and order products manually before the technology was developed.
A bar code system requires both hardware and software to work effectively and provide a time saving logistical solution. In the retail industry the principle bar code solution needs specially developed portable or stationary bar code equipment to scan bar code labels on products. The bar code is read by a computer that keeps track of stock levels and once it recognises a certain product has only a few units left available it automatically sends an order to the supplier for more.
Purchasing and maintaining all the bar code equipment is expensive but worthwhile, especially for large stores. There are few shops that still track and order stock manually, as bar code systems save so much time and reduce the number of errors made, as long as staff are well trained in using the equipment.
